Notes From the Road…

I’m sitting in the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport as I write this, and I am literally watching as a white middle aged nun stand with her feet spread apart, arms raised above her head, standing spread eagle in the naked scanner. Aside from being amused, I'm eager to write this, not because of what I’m observing, but because of what I heard a lady say as I stood in line waiting to board a flight to Philadelphia earlier today.

It was in this line that I heard a lady loudly profess her lack of understanding for all those who are incensed at the ability of TSA agents to view their figures in a state of undress. Her direct quote, made as she sneered at the uneducated masses was, “haven’t they ever taken biology?” I nearly challenged her to strip naked right then and there, and board the aircraft in the buff, after all I have taken biology and thus I am qualified to see her naked.

This is just a snapshot of the thinking out there. So eager and willing are we to allow extreme measures for the sake of security, but yet Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security today said that screening 100 % of air cargo isn’t the way to go. Well thanks for informing the thousands of terrorist out there Madam Secretary, that we aren’t THAT serious about flight safety.

Imagine getting on an aircraft to fly you and your family across the sea for holiday just to find out that the cargo that sits just below you hasn’t been screened, but yet you and your family have been virtually stripped searched. How safe do you feel? Isn’t safety why we are subjecting ourselves to all of this in the first place? Just how serious is DHS about our security.

The problem that we are facing in America is that the naked scanners and the TSA are the LAST LINES OF DEFENSE! Should every Americans have to be screened if the government were doing its job in the first place? How about keeping an eye on these so called “student visas”, or closing the borders so that anybody cant just walk across them. Why aren’t we questioning how a terrorist can purchase explosives,  buy a ticket and even make it to the airport without authorities being tipped off? Is our intelligence community that inept? Because that’s the message that I’m getting right now. If the only thing keeping us from being attacked are a few thousand 16 dollar an hour, non law enforcement, walkie talkie toting, blue clad wonders, then America we’ve got a problem. And perhaps the naked scanner is the least of our worries.

Just wait till our first shopping mall is blown up, county fair, or ball game. Perhaps I should buy a few shares of whoever makes the naked scanner, because rest assured they will be deployed at every public facility as a deterrent to terrorism. I mean why shouldn’t they, obviously our government cant stop these guys, so this is the only to keep us safe.

The tongue and cheekyness of the above article should not be disregarded. It was meant to be.
